durex condoms1. You mentioned a really cool voiceover project in your recent MVO: The Voiceover Guys update. Can you talk about who the project was for and where it was heard or seen?

I’ve recently completed a series of on-line commercials for Durex condoms.

2. What made the media production’s content interesting from your perspective?

I found the script and overall commercial production very amusing, informative and very tongue-in-cheek as the spots encouraged young men to not be afraid to just take a moment before “a passionate moment” and put on a condom.

3. As the voice talent in the media project, were there any technical or performance challenges during this voiceover recording session?

It’s not common that I have to talk about such things in my day-to-day VO work. This was a welcome break. Fun, rude and very cathartic to spend a few hours in the world of safe sex.

4. Is there anything else you would like us to know about this voiceover project?

More young men need to wear condoms!

Bloomberg1. You mentioned a really cool voiceover project in your recent MVO: The Voiceover Guys update. Can you talk about who the project was for and where it was heard or seen?

I was the male voice talent for a promo commercial for Bloomberg that plays at the Bloomberg Hub in London City Airport.

2. What made the media production’s content interesting from your perspective?

The location where this plays is what I find interesting. The Bloomberg hub is essentially the typical Bloomberg experience but in London City airport with wall to wall screens continually playing up to the minute news headlines and financial videos.

3. As the voice talent in the media project, were there any technical or performance challenges during this voiceover recording session?

I wasn’t available to record in New York on the day so it was all done via Source Connect, recording to picture while I was out of the country in France. I was in a studio in Paris, the engineer and Bloomberg team were in New York and the final client was in London.

4. Is there anything else you would like us to know about this voiceover project?

I like working for Bloomberg 🙂

What’s New? w/ JAMES CLAMP is part of a series in which MVO: The Voice-Over Guys’ checks-in with one of our male voiceover talents to learn more about a recent media project he has voiced. Here’s what James shared with us.

NHK World Network logo1. Can you tell us about a recent voiceover project you’ve recently enjoyed working on? Who was it for?
At Home with Venetia broadcast on NHK World, the NHK TV network’s international service that delivers to the world the latest information about Japan and Asia through television, radio, and internet. NHK is Japan’s sole public broadcasting organization.

2. What was the project all about?
A documentary series that’s been ongoing for about 8 years now about the life of Venetia Stanley Smith, a fascinating lady who rejected her English peerage heritage and travelled off East to be a singer, eventually winding up in Japan in 1971…..The show follows her as she creates a true homegrown country lifestyle in Ohara, making everything herself from compost to shampoo and the fascinating artisans she meets along the way. She created a 132 sqm garden that has won gardening competitions, she wrote books about herb gardens and environmental living, wrote columns for years in the main Kyoto newspaper and now has her own TV series.

3. How did the project come to you? Agent? Website? Past client?
Back in 2009, the Producer emailed me directly and let me know that I was her preferred choice….I didn’t even know the show was being planned, let alone that I was in the running and had not submitted an audition. It was all from my website demo’s.

4. What was the most interesting or enjoyable part of this project for you?
Everything that Venetia is doing is more and more relevant today. People are changing and attempting to take care of the planet more and more, what they eat, how their food is grown and prepared, trying to be as environmentally aware as possible. Here’s a lady who’s been living that life for decades. A true no waste lifestyle. As someone who grew up in London and lived in cities all my life, I never really cared about the countryside until I started narrating this series. Now I’m fed up with living in the city, I want to live in the country and raise chickens and have a herb garden and I’m learning all this great information about how to do that from the Venetia show! My wife and kids would all have heart attacks if they knew the truth, even our dog sneers when he feels grass under his feet 🙂

Here’s a sample show that I have narrated:

It’s time once again for the Voice-Over Guys to pick the 2017 Stanley Cup winner.

As usually, only some of the guys will be winners.

This year’s NHL finals see the perennial Stanley Cup Champion Pittsburgh Penguins take on the Nashville Predators, who are in their first Stanley Cup Final.

We’re not sure if many folks are just tired of Pittsburgh winning the Cup all the time but there sure are a lot of MVO: The Voice-Over Guys cheering for Nashville. Maybe they just love the underdog.

At any rate, here are the MVO: The Voice-Over Guys who will be supporting Pittsburgh:

Here are the MVO: The Voice-Over Guys who will be supporting Nashville:

For those of you unfamiliar with the Stanley Cup (and oh what fun you’ve been missing), here taken from NHL.com is a brief history of the NHL’s highest prize:

It all started on March 18, 1892, at a dinner of the Ottawa Amateur Athletic Association. Lord Kilcoursie, a player on the Ottawa Rebels hockey club from Government House, delivered the following message on behalf of Lord Stanley, the Earl of Preston and Governor General of Canada:

“I have for some time been thinking that it would be a good thing if there were a challenge cup which should be held from year to year by the champion hockey team in the Dominion (of Canada).

“There does not appear to be any such outward sign of a championship at present, and considering the general interest which matches now elicit, and the importance of having the game played fairly and under rules generally recognized, I am willing to give a cup which shall be held from year to year by the winning team.”

Shortly thereafter, Lord Stanley purchased a silver cup measuring 7 ½ inches high by 11 ½ inches across for the sum of 10 guineas (approximately $50); appointed two Ottawa gentlemen, Sheriff John Sweetland and Philip D. Ross, as trustees of that cup; and set the following preliminary conditions to govern the annual competition:

  • – The winners to return the Cup in good order when required by the trustees in order that it may be handed over to any other team which may win it.
  • – Each winning team to have the club name and year engraved on a silver ring fitted on the Cup.
  • – The Cup to remain a challenge competition and not the property of any one team, even if won more than once.
  • – The trustees to maintain absolute authority in all situations or disputes over the winner of the Cup.
  • – A substitute trustee to be named in the event that one of the existing trustees drops out.

The first winner of the Stanley Cup was the Montreal Amateur Athletic Association (AAA) hockey club, champions of the Amateur Hockey Association of Canada for 1893. Ironically, Lord Stanley never witnessed a championship game nor attended a presentation of his trophy, having returned to his native England in the midst of the 1893 season. Nevertheless, the quest for his trophy has become one of the world’s most prestigious sporting competitions.
