For many families on Christmas morning, there were as many smiles as there were gifts to unwrap (maybe even more smiles).

Voice Talent and MVO: The Voice-Over Guys’ member Peter K. O’Connell inside his new StudioBricks voiceover booth

In Cary, NC (just outside of Raleigh), MVO: The Voice-Over Guys’ member and male voice talent PETER K. O’CONNELL had possibly the biggest smile (and present) in his house because he got a new voiceover booth.

In late summer, O’Connell and his family moved into their new home and with it came the task of designing a new voiceover studio.

“With the new place, I knew I was going to design a new home studio work space but I wasn’t sure if I was going to build a custom booth as I had in Buffalo or a pre-fab booth,” said O’Connell, a professional voiceover talent for more than 35 years.

After some research and talking with fellow voice talents and sound engineers, O’Connell looked at his blank slate of a studio space and decided he would buy a booth.

“There are a ton of pre-fabricated voiceover booth options out there, some not so great but some were acoustically and size wise exactly what I needed,” he noted.

A few years earlier, while attending a voiceover seminar presented by OSCARS® announcer Randy Thomas, O’Connell was introduced to the StudioBricks voiceover booth, made in Barcelona, Spain. He was impressed by what he heard and what he didn’t hear.

“It’s very quiet, as you would expect, but it also didn’t have a ‘dead’ sound that you get in some booths, plus it looked really sharp,” O’Connell said.

So when it was his time to pick a booth, O’Connell remembered StudioBricks. But he assumed that because it needed to be shipped from Spain to Raleigh, shipping costs would make it more expensive than vocal booths produced in America.

“When I compared apples to apples on booth sizes, elements AND shipping from Spain, the StudioBricks was a little less expensive than the U.S. booths.

Decision made.

Aside from the initial trepidation O’Connell encountered when an 18-wheeler dropped off the enormous and thus intimidating crate that contained his new booth to be assembled at his studio, he said everything about the booth has been terrific.

Producers love the booth’s sound quality and clients who come to the studio really love the look including the small details…like the dash of orange color from a wall in the booth interior.

“Orange is my youngest child’s favorite color and it was mine when I was his age too…so orange it was,” O’Connell said.
