What’s New With PETER K. O’CONNELL, August 2023 is part of a series in which MVO: The Voice-Over Guys checks-in with one of our male voiceover talents to learn more about a recent media project he has voiced. Here’s what Peter shared with us.

What's New Peter K. O'Connell MVO The Voiceover Guys

Q. You mentioned a really cool voiceover project in your recent MVO: The Voiceover Guys update. Can you talk about who the project was for and where it was heard or seen?

A: Sure, I was very pleased to be signed as the voiceover talent for SpeedAgro, an Argentinian based company that provides comprehensive and responsible solutions for agriculture in Argentina and 12 other countries. I was the voiceover talent for their recently completed English language corporate story video.

Q. What made the media production’s content especially interesting from your perspective?

A: Working with an international production company, the unique aspect I usually come across is English as a second language. Nothing a little patience on both sides can’t overcome. But I was fortunate enough to work with a production company that has been a long time client – they have always been great to work with so there were no language issues on this project.

Q. As the voice talent in your media project, were there any kinds of special ways you prepared for your voiceover performance? Or anything unique you had to execute from a technical standpoint?

A: Technically, this was a very easy project as I’ve worked with this production house before, they trust my work and just record at my studio in my StudioBricks booth. Part of the reason they trust my work, I think, is that we have always have a very fruitful, open discussion about the sound and tone of the voiceover needed…sharing options and examples and honing in on the sound they want. I try and do this will all my voiceover clients.

Q. Briefly, are there any other recent voiceover projects you’ve done that you want to share with us?

A: Yes, I have a nice national radio spot coming out soon for a big retailer…and until it comes out, that’s all I can say. 🙂

ABOUT PETER K. O’CONNELL

IT WAS 1969 and I was in kindergarten.

Our saintly teacher, Sister Donna Marie, took our class on a trip to WEBR-AM in Buffalo, NY.

The minute I walked into that radio station control room…BOOM!

Everything changed for me. Everything.

I knew instantly my life would always include a microphone.

From securing my high school’s first-ever broadcasting internship to hosting Dayton, Ohio’s #1 rated Saturday night request show on a 50,000-watt FM station while only in college, I’ve been behind a microphone almost ever since.

My audio production and voiceover work evolved into my voiceover production company, audio’connell Voiceover Talent.

There, I voice commercials, narrations and broadcast promos for clients like Amazon (AWS), Crest Toothpaste, iHeart Radio and Duracell Batteries.

In 2016, we O’Connells packed up our Conestoga wagon and ventured from our longtime home in Buffalo, NY to Raleigh, NC (near Research Triangle Park), where my Source-Connect equipped, professional recording studio serves media producers world-wide.

What’s New With CHADD PIERCE August 2023 is part of a series in which MVO: The Voice-Over
Guys checks-in with one of our male voiceover talents to learn more about a recent
media project he has voiced. Here’s what Chadd shared with us.

What's New Chadd Pierce MVO The Voiceover Guys

Q. You mentioned a really cool voiceover project in your recent MVO: The Voiceover
Guys update. Can you talk about who the project was for and where it was heard or
seen?
Chadd Pierce MVO: The Voiceover Guys August 23A: Alpha Media’s Bay Country makes a Swift change! At the end of July, as a massive influx of fans flooded the San Francisco Bay Area for back-to-back nights of Taylor Swift concerts, KBAY-FM conducted a stunt. The lone-local Country station abandoned the usual programming of Morgan Wallen and Luke Bryan for an all-Taylor-Swift weekend. They commissioned an entire rebrand of all ID elements and a host of tribute pieces, and Chadd provided the fun & lighthearted voice to match the vibe. From spoken lyrics to obscure references only a “Swiftie” would know, a complete station makeover was implemented, and “Tay Bay” was born (and died two days later for a return to normal).

Q. What made the media production’s content especially interesting from your
perspective?
A: It’s not the first time this sort of “takeover” stunt has been employed, but for the radio
industry, this was different for a few reasons. KBAY is (usually) a Country station, but
playing the entire Taylor Swift library would typically lean largely pop. In a market with
no other Country stations, the station could afford to take a small hit to public perception
from die hard Country fans who are also non-Swifties. Fortunately, Taylor just released
new recordings of several Country Chart toppers from early in her career to escape a
clause that prevented her from performing the songs otherwise “owned” by her former
record company. The buzz from that release brought much of her Country catalogue
back to relevance. The stunt went off without a hitch and Taylor Swift put on 2 amazing
shows (even going past city noise curfew).

Q. As the voice talent in your media project, were there any kinds of special ways you
prepared for your voiceover performance? Or anything unique you had to execute from
a technical standpoint?
A: It was a necessity to do research on the song lyrics. There were references I wanted
to understand before jumping into the script, and some were kind of obscure. I learned a
LOT about the artist I never knew, and gained a new respect for this epic performer who
also seems like a genuinely good person with relatable awkwardness and a cats
obsession.

Q. Briefly, are there any other recent voiceover projects you’ve done that you want to
share with us?
A: Most of recent projects have come from radio companies. I was signed as the
voice of WKHX-Atlanta, and am nominated for a One Voice award for my work with
KUPL-Portland, OR.

ABOUT CHADD PIERCE
Chadd’s approach to voiceover is uniquely holistic. He’s sat in the director’s chair, as cast and coached talent, serves as copywriter, performs on-camera, and is an active a/v editor and post-producer. Easily directed within a huge range. Exudes a smart 4th Wall-breaking “wink”, and conversational realism.

On the heels of celebrating his 40th Anniversary as a professional voiceover talent in 2022, MVO: The Voiceover Guys’ PETER K. O’CONNELL has released a new commercial voiceover demo for 2023.

During his decades long voice acting career, O’Connell has served as the primary voice talent for hundreds of brands (no, he’s never actually counted them) including Crest Toothpaste, L.L.Bean, Duracell, T-Mobile, Blue Cross Blue Shield…well there’s a lot, you get the point.

This latest commercial demo includes great examples of Peter’s exemplary vocal versatility for commercial voice work, including his frequently broadcast work for on the very fun project for iHeart Media’s “Ridiculous History Podcast”.

“It’s exciting, stressful and nerve-wracking producing a new commercial demo,” O’Connell said. “While I have produced many, you still are never sure as you go through the process whether you are hitting the right notes for producers. But the feedback on this demo has been amazing. It’s gratifying that so many producers and casting agents like this new demo,” O’Connell noted.

You can hear the new demo HERE or on O’Connell’s MVO: The Voiceover Guy web page HERE.

What’s New With PETER K. O’CONNELL Fall 2022 is part of a series in which MVO: The Voice-Over Guys checks-in with one of our male voiceover talents to learn more about a recent media project he has voiced. Here’s what Brandon shared with us.

Whats New Peter K. O'Connell MVO The Voiceover Guys

1. You mentioned a really cool voiceover project in your recent MVO: The Voiceover Guys update. Can you talk about who the project was for and where it was heard or seen?

I got to be the male voice talent on a two-person national radio campaign for Novartis. My character was the patient, a kind of everyman, talking about the overall challenges of dealing with lung cancer.

Novartis, one of the largest pharmaceutical companies in the world and this radio spot was for its Sound Up For Lung Cancer awareness program.

>>> LISTEN TO THE COMMERCIAL HERE.

2. What made the media production’s content interesting from your perspective?

I thought this was special for many reasons not the least of which was that Novartis’ Sound Up for Lung Cancer initiative empowers people living with lung cancer to advocate for themselves in a manner that helps them get the best care possible.

For people fighting a difficult disease like lung cancer, this program sounds extremely helpful.

3. As the voice talent in the media project, were there any technical or performance challenges during this voiceover recording session?

Thankfully no.

I’ve worked with the production company responsible to this campaign for over a decade so there is a great deal of familiarity and trust between us when it comes to my studio’s technical specification, my audio production capabilities and and my performance abilities.

Now that I think about how I just said that, it sounds braggadocios and I didn’t mean it that way (laughs) – all I mean is that we each have equally high standards and expectations in production and performance and – because of those complimentary standards – we work well together.

Now ask another question so I can stop sounding like idiot braggart (laughs).

4. Is this project’s category of voiceover work something you do a lot or do you have another voiceover specialty?

Working on radio and TV commercials has always been the biggest part of my voiceover business – and I’ve been doing this for 40 years as of 2022. Whether national, regional or local commercial spots, I’ve been very blessed as a male voiceover talent.

The other big part of my voice talent business is everything narration. Sales videos, explainer videos, corporate narration…I voice a ton of those projects as well.

Then lastly I would say I’m best known at live events for my live announcing, hosting and emceeing.

Also, I do magic shows for kids birthday parties. KIDDING, no I don’t. No calls please. I’m going to regret saying that (laughs).

What’s New With BRANDON POLLOCK Fall 2022 is part of a series in which MVO: The Voice-Over Guys checks-in with one of our male voiceover talents to learn more about a recent media project he has voiced. Here’s what Brandon shared with us.

MVO The VoiceOver Guys What's New Brandon Pollock

1. You mentioned a really cool voiceover project in your recent MVO: The Voiceover Guys update. Can you talk about who the project was for and where it was heard or seen?

Brandon Pollock MVO: The Voiceover Guys September 22The year started out with a bang for me thanks to Desanti Talent in Chicago who helped me book an AVO role for Clorox in the launch of their new Disinfecting Mist. The AVO role was used in three :15 spots that ran nationally for most of this year, they are currently on “Hold”. There’s no question this job is one of my biggest bookings to date and that was extremely rewarding professionally.

However, it led to one of the coolest moments for me personally in April while visiting my mom and family for Easter. Over the years, I’ve only caught my national work on live TV once… and I was by myself so I had no one to share my excitement with. On Easter Sunday, we were all sitting around spending time together with the TV on in the background when one of the Clorox spots came on. That was pretty cool to share that moment with my entire family.

WATCH ONE OF BRANDON’S CLOROX SPOTS:

2. What made the media production’s content interesting from your perspective?

I loved the writing and the fact they were using two VO talents on each spot. My job (as the spots’ announcer/narrator) was really to set up the amazing performances of the talents who played the objects being sprayed and cleaned.

3. As the voice talent in the media project, were there any technical or performance challenges during this voiceover recording session?

While I have source connect in my home booth, I take advantage of having one of the best studios in the business, Groundcrew Sound in Charlotte, right down the road from me as often as I can. They gave me my start in this business so anytime I can utilize their space and talents, I do. Plus, with a gig of this magnitude, the last thing I wanted to be worried about during the session was the engineering aspect.

I knew it was going to be a great session the moment it started and turned out to be one of the most fun sessions I’ve had the privilege to be a part of. The agency and the client knew exactly what they wanted and we had the selects knocked out within the first few takes. Then they took off the cuffs and we had fun trying a handful of wild takes so they had plenty to work with.

It was a bit nerve-racking to be on hold while they were live mixing the spots to show the client before releasing me. After 30 minutes of anticipation, I happily welcomed the news that the “Client was thrilled.”

4. Is this project’s category of voiceover work something you do a lot or do you have another voiceover specialty?

Commercial work has always been my main source of voiceover income and I do love the genre. However, it’s not the only VO genre I have a passion for. I’m very fortunate to have clients that bring me a wide range of VO needs from Automotive and e-Learning to industrial narrations and explainer videos. I also love audiobook narration work as well. In fact, I just recently signed with Tantor Audio and my first book with them, “Tailspin,” is due out in November.

My next VO goal is to book an animation series.

ABOUT BRANDON POLLOCK

Since Brandon began his voiceover career in 2011, he’s been trusted by companies all over the world to voice their projects ranging from commercials, industrial narrations, eLearning, explainer videos and more.

Brandon believes in getting it right and enjoys taking direction to deliver exactly what you’re looking for.

He currently lives in Charlotte, North Carolina with his Wife, Lauren, and their two daughters Brynley and Ella Claire.

What’s New With DARRELL BROWN Fall 2022 is part of a series in which MVO: The Voice-Over Guys checks-in with one of our male voiceover talents to learn more about a recent media project he has voiced. Here’s what Darrell shared with us.

MVO The VoiceOver Guys What's New Darrell Brown

1. You mentioned a really cool voiceover project in your recent MVO: The Voiceover Guys update. Can you talk about who the project was for and where it was heard or seen?

Crazy Rich Asians History Channel MVO Darrell BrownYes, I had the privilege of narrating a new 12-episode series for The History Channel titled Crazy Rich Ancients…see what they did there? It was a unique experience because I was actually involved in the very beginning when it was just a concept. I worked with the production company to record a demo that they ultimately used to pitch to History. Needless to say it got picked up, and they selected me as the narrator.

2. What made the media production’s content interesting from your perspective?

I think everyone can learn some interesting facts from this series. Each ½ hour episode features a theme – from bizarre collections to billion-dollar parties to nine-figure palaces – and takes viewers on an immersive ride through jaw-dropping decadence to discover which mysterious historical figures ultimately spent the most on their obsessions. The season just wrapped up, but you can catch it on-demand.

3. As the voice talent in the media project, were there any technical or performance challenges during this voiceover recording session?

There were no technical challenges to speak of. As voice actors, we are all used to doing remote sessions, so that part was easy. The challenge came in the form of performance…mainly because each session was 2 hours that were used to record multiple options for the production team. That’s a long time for a guy who is used to short-form projects. Most of my commercial sessions only last 30 minutes to an hour…and if it’s promo, it could be as short as 5 minutes. I have much respect for audiobook narrators.

4. Is this project’s category of voiceover work something you do a lot or do you have another voiceover specialty?

No, it isn’t. I’ve only narrated one other series which was for National Geographic titled Man Woman Dog. I generally do commercials, promo and corporate narration. You can currently hear me voicing the Disney 50th Anniversary and Farxiga pharmaceutical campaigns. I also do quite a bit of sports promo including the NFL, NBA and WWE (Beware of the Smackdown, Brother!…say that in your best wrestler voice). The beauty of voice over is that no two days are ever the same. After nearly 15 years in the business, I’m still loving it.

ABOUT DARRELL BROWN

Darrell Brown is an African American male voice over talent specializing in commercials, narration, promo and movie trailers. He delivers smooth, rich, engaging sounds for clients such as Google, McDonald’s, Toyota and many others. Since 2008, this veteran voice actor has helped brands all over the world to tell their story and reach general and urban audiences through TV, radio and internet. Whether it be commercial, narration, promo or trailers, Darrell will bring your story to life.
