But we cannot / must not forget those in need, the less fortunate or those that are dying or have died.

Since our founding, a variety of members from MVO: The Voiceover Guys have supported one charity event: MOVEMBER. We are doing it again in 2020.

PETER K. O’CONNELL

IT WAS 1969 and I was in kindergarten.

Our saintly teacher, Sister Donna Marie, took our class on a trip to WEBR-AM in Buffalo, NY.

The minute I walked into that radio station control room…BOOM! 

Everything changed for me.  Everything.

I knew instantly my life would always include a microphone.

My Dad was State High School Oratory Champion and Mom had long wanted to work in broadcasting at a time when women didn’t do that so, while my 5-year-old self didn’t realize it, my broadcasting obsession was probably genetic. 

From securing my high school’s first-ever radio station internship to hosting Dayton, Ohio’s #1 rated Saturday night request show on a 50,000-watt radio station while only in college, I’ve been behind a microphone almost ever since.

Consistent requests from early radio advertisers for my commercial production and live announcing work confirmed for me (financially and spiritually) that I had a future in voiceover.

That broadcasting and voiceover work evolved into my current company, audio’connell Voiceover Talent. I voice commercials, narrations and broadcast promos f]or clients like IBM, Kraft Foods, Crest Toothpaste, PBS and Duracell Batteries.

In 2016, we O’Connells packed up our Conestoga wagon and ventured from our longtime home in Buffalo, NY to Raleigh, NC (near Research Triangle Park), where my Source-Connect equipped, professional recording studio serves media producers world-wide.

This year’s whisker growers from MVO: The Voiceover Guys are DUSTIN EBAUGH and PETER K. O’CONNELL.

Why this charity? It seemed a pretty natural fit that a collective of male voiceover talents like MVO would support a foundation focused on male health issues. If we can raise awareness and funds by growing whiskers for a month, we’ll do it. It’s really that simple.

The problems facing men’s health are not that simple nor do these male health issues get very much attention.

Men’s health is in crisis. Men are dying on average 6 years earlier than women, and for largely preventable reasons. Unchecked, prostate cancer rates will double over the next 15 years. Testicular cancer rates have already doubled in the last 50. And across the world, one man dies by suicide every minute of every day, with males accounting for 75% of all suicides.

You’ve now read all that and chances are you didn’t know those alarming statistics before you read this post. That’s how MVO can help on the awareness part.

It is the pleasure of MVO: The Voice-Over Guys to introduce this year’s Movember team. It is worth noting that the state of North Carolina is represented by 3 of the 4 growers this year!

New to the team this year are:

MIKE COOPER – based in Asheville, NC, Mike not new to the voice over work but somewhat new to the US as a new United States citizen having immigrated from the U.K. The voice of numerous shows for A&E, HISTORY and National Geographic in the UK – as well as being heard globally for a decade on the BBC World Service – Mike has been called a “one-take wonder”, and loves bringing his wit and humour into the booth (when appropriate!) to play tongue-in-cheek, as well as straight/dramatic British.

BRANDON POLLOCK – Charlotte, NC is the headquarters for Brandon and his family where he not only maintains his voiceover business but also works as a respected radio broadcaster as well. Since Brandon began his voiceover career in 2011, he’s been trusted by companies all over the world to voice their projects ranging from commercials, industrial narrations, eLearning, explainer videos and more.

O’CONNELL – New to the state of North Carolina but a 37 year voiceover professional, Peter’s voiceover business is based just outside of Raleigh, NC in Cary, NC. Some of Peter’s voiceover clients include IBM, L.L.Bean, Duracell Batteries, General Electric, Kraft Foods, Western Union, PBS Television Network, Shell Oil, Deloitte Canada, U.S. Army, Starz Cable Television Network, BlueCross BlueShield and SunSetter Awnings.

As the primary charity event for MVO: The Voice-Over Guys since we began, Movember is the annual fund raising event for  men’s health including prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health and suicide prevention.

All 4 voice talents have agreed to start the month of November freshly shaven and then grow facial hair all month long to continue the discussion of men’s health issues with family and friends while also gathering donations from those same folks…people like you (that’s a hint: please donate)!

Here’s my short biography…

Hi, I’m Peter and I’m a voiceover talent!

Now, if you feel the need to punish yourself, here is my slightly longer biography…

Before Madonna sang about her virginity, when making a phone call from the road meant plunking twenty five cents into a phone booth and back when getting “on-line” meant waiting to check-out at the grocery store, I began my career as a male voiceover talent and live announcer.

I am celebrating my 35th year as a professional male voice-over talent.

As America’s Friendly, Neighborhood Voiceover Talent, my broad vocal range allows me my global clients, who range from Fortune 500 Companies to companies who think $500 is a fortune.

Some of the more well known brands I’ve voiced for include General Electric (GE), Kraft Foods, Public Broadcasting Service, Shell Oil, Duracell Batteries, Starz Network, Papa John’s Pizza and Fox Sports Networks.

Local companies to international brands, I proudly work with them all.

People have told me I am a natural born storyteller. From my conversational everyman voice to my hard sell straight announcer performances, my voice is most often heard in media productions like:

A native of Buffalo, NY, I grew up in the Nickel City – I even worked in radio there at WLVL, for, like a week. I truly developed my broadcasting and voice-over skills in Dayton, Ohio at WVUD-FM as a top rated disc jockey and then as a commercial producer for the station.

I produce my voiceover projects through my audio production company, audio’connell Voiceover Talent which is a division of O’Connell Communications, LLC. audio’connell also provides casting services for clients looking for professional female voiceover and audio production services for national and international clients. The voice over needs of foreign language clients are served through another O’Connell-owned company, International Voice Talents.

I also wrote The Voice Over Entrance Exam. The free e-book examines the business and performance realities of becoming a voice-over talent and maintaining a career among a spirited field of established voiceover professionals. The Voice Over Workshop is another one of my companies. In private one-on-one voiceover sessions in my studio or via Skype, I teach new and experienced voice talents what I’ve learned after nearly 30 years in the voice over business and critical stuff voice actors need to know to get paid voice jobs.

I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in Radio and Television Communication from the University of Dayton (OH) – no one is quite sure how – nonetheless the official diploma can be found somewhere in my Cary, North Carolina home (just outside of Raleigh, North Carolina) where I live with my wife and children.

Dan lives in the beautiful mountains of Asheville, NC and is a husband and father of 2 boys. He attended five universities and had three majors before being introduced to audio engineering in 1994. Realizing his career dream, he ended his educational journey at The Recording Workshop in Chillicothe, Ohio finishing among the top 5 in his class.

With over a decade in the voiceover industry, he has produced, directed or provided his voice to thousands of audio productions.

In 2010 he published SOUND ADVICE- Voiceover From An Audio Engineer’s Perspective. A first of its kind in the industry, the book covers audio engineering and studio session etiquette as it relates directly to voiceover talent.
